High Schools: Strath Haven's Wuenschel, Seals claim gold at Whippet Invitational

Strath Haven's Dan Wuenschel and Brian Seals each won an event and added a second medal at the Whippet Invitational hosted by Downingtown West Saturday.

Wuenschel set the top time in the 400-meter dash in 52.60 seconds. He was fourth in the 1,600, a spot ahead of teammate Matt Lund.

Seals had the winning throw in the shot put at 40 feet even. He took fourth in the discus.

They led four Delco winners on the boys side. Episcopal Academy's Aidan McHugh dominated the field in the 800 meters in 1:57.38, winning by seven-tenths. Upper Darby's 4 x 800 relay took first place. The Royals also saw Tyler Biddle finish third in the shot put.

Academy Park's Terrence Oliver was second in the 100-meter dash at 11.70 seconds, teammate Troy Wilkins fifth. Joshua Dean finished third in the 200 and fifth in the 400, the latter a spot up on teammate Shaun Moat. Keyon Jones landed second in the high jump, as was Strath Haven's Enoh Liu in the javelin and EA's Ethan Zhou in the 3,200. Haverford's Nathan Donohue was third in the 100.

Garnet Valley's Isabella Tront picked up the only win for a Delco girl, and nearly pulled an impressive double. She won the high jump by clearing 5 feet, then finished second in the discus.

Teammate Marina Kondo finished second in the 100 hurdles, .03 off the win in 16.99 seconds, and fourth in the triple jump. Nikolien Bezuidenhout took second in the long jump. Avery Lustgarten was fourth in the 1,600, and the Jaguars took home second in the 4 x 800 relay.

Upper Darby put together nine top-six finishes, led by Janaye Haye's second in the triple jump and Kylah Ward finishing third in the long jump. Ophelia Gbotoe was third in the 200, as was Haverford's Colette Wagner in the 100 hurdles.

At the Unionville Invitational:

Penncrest's Josephine Truocchio took home three top-seven finishes. She finished second in the shot put, third in the discus and seventh in the javelin.

That first event was won by Delco Christian's Evezi Omuyeh, who won with a best throw of 33-10.5. Teammate Hallie Kess finished third in the javelin.

Penncrest's Ruby Schwelm was second in the 800; teammate Kamryn Ohm took fifth in the pole vault. Auldine Turay of Ridley secured fourth in the triple jump.

Radnor's Mason Shieh won the 110 hurdles with a time of 16.02 seconds. Teammate Brady Nguyen finished second in the pole vault, and Liam Janschka was third in the discus.

Marple Newtown's Steve Hamson won the high jump by clearing 5-10. CJ Simbiri of Delco Christian was third in the long jump.

Conestoga's Voyin Markovic and Aaron Sun rallied for a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 victory over Harriton's Aidan Hsu and Sloan Steinberg to win the Central League doubles championships and qualify for the District 1 Class 3A championships.

Lower Merion's Nathan Dolgushev and Charlie Bittinger, Conestoga's Basil Lubiniecki and Francis Qin, Lower Merion's Mark Lancaster and Stoyan Angelov, Garnet Valley's Braden Rogers and Vishal Brahma and Penncrest's Brady Huggett and Flynn Hollinger also qualified for the district tournament.

Dolgushev and Bittinger topped Lubiniecki and Qin, 6-3, 6-4, in the third place match. Lancaster and Angelov defeated Rogers and Brahma, 6-0, 6-0, for fifth place. Huggett and Hollinger placed seventh.
